Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been the highlight of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leading the series with an impressive 21 wickets. His remarkable performance has put him far ahead of Australian bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who have taken 14 wickets each.
Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has praised Bumrah, calling him "miles ahead" of any other bowler. "Bumrah is world-class. He’s carrying the attack because of how brilliant he is, and that's no disrespect to other bowlers. He’s just that good," Lee told Fox Sports.
Bumrah's dominance is evident in his statistics. With 53 Test wickets in Australia at an average of 17.15, his 21 wickets in this series alone have come at a staggering average of just 10.90. Comparatively, Starc and Cummins have averaged over 22 and 24, respectively, in the same series.
While the Australian bowling unit has faced challenges with injuries to key players like Josh Hazlewood, Bumrah's consistency has kept him ahead. Lee also emphasized his desire to see Australia’s top pacers—Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood—play together regularly, criticizing the rotation policy.
"Test cricket is about endurance and courage. Fans want to see the best XI on the field every single time," Lee said.
With Bumrah’s brilliance setting the tone, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a showcase of exceptional talent and fierce competition.
