Former US President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized after developing a fever, according to a spokesperson for the Democrat. Angel Ureña wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving." Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, on Monday evening for tests and observation following the onset of the fever.
Ureña's statement did not provide further details about Clinton's condition, but US media reports suggest that he is expected to recover. A source close to Clinton informed NBC News that the situation is "not urgent" and that the former president is "awake and alert." This marks another health scare for the 42nd US president, who served from 1993 to 2001.
Clinton, 78, was last hospitalized for six days in 2021 due to a blood infection. He has also faced heart issues in the past; in 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after extensive heart disease was discovered, and ten years later, he had a clogged artery opened after experiencing chest pains. Following his second surgery, Clinton adopted a vegan diet and remarked to Politico in 2016, "I might not be around if I hadn't become a vegan. It's great."
This year, Clinton was active on the presidential campaign trail, traveling across the country to support Vice President Kamala Harris's bid for the presidency.
