Around 1,500 prisoners escaped from a prison in Mozambique, amid the ongoing political unrest triggered by disputed election results, according to the local police.
Bernardino Rafael, the police chief in a press conference said that thirty-three people were killed and fifteen injured in clashes with the guards and around 150 fugitives have been additionally recaptured.
At least 78 people have been arrested so far and security measures have been tightened across the country, Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda told public broadcaster TVM on Tuesday.
"The armed and defense force will increase its presence in critical and key points," he said.
