Chess Star Tania Sachdev Meets Delhi CM After Highlighting Recognition Gap
After sparking a conversation on social media about the Delhi government’s lack of acknowledgment for her contributions to chess, Tania Sachdev recently met with Chief Minister Atishi. The meeting focused on promoting chess in Delhi, especially in government schools.
"Tania Sachdev is an inspiration for young chess players in India. She shared valuable ideas to make chess more accessible and break cultural barriers. We’re committed to resolving her concerns and working together to promote the sport," Atishi wrote on X, assuring support for Delhi’s chess athletes.
Expressing gratitude, Tania replied, "Thank you for the encouragement! State support can create a new wave of players and establish Delhi as a hub for this incredible game."
In her earlier post, Tania voiced disappointment over the lack of recognition despite representing India since 2008 and achieving milestones like the 2022 Chess Olympiad bronze and the historic 2024 Olympic gold. Her appeal appears to have prompted a promising step towards change.
