Swiggy Instamart's 2024 Report: Delhi Spends Big on Instant Noodles
As 2024 comes to an end, Swiggy Instamart’s year-end report has unveiled some fascinating consumer trends across India. Covering data from January 1 to December 1, 2024, the report highlights ordering patterns that reveal much about the country’s food and lifestyle choices.
Delhi emerged as the top spender on instant noodles, shelling out a staggering ₹60 crore this year. The city also led in ordering potato chips, making it a snacking haven. Meanwhile, Mumbai dominated onion orders, followed by Hyderabad and Delhi. On December 1 alone, Indians ordered 4,500 kilos of onions within a single hour, from 7 to 8 pm.
Mumbai also set a unique record, with its residents ordering tonic water worth ₹8 lakh in just one day. Nationwide, the five most-ordered items were milk, curd, dosa batter, chips, and soft drinks. Notably, milk featured in 1 out of every 15 orders, while fruits or vegetables appeared in 1 out of every 5.
Festivals brought their own trends. On Raksha Bandhan, Swiggy delivered 2,85,000 gifts using the “order for others” feature, with 273 chocolates ordered every minute. During Dhanteras, users spent over ₹45 lakh on brooms, while close to 8,00,000 rakhis were delivered.
The report also shared the year’s fastest delivery—a mere 89 seconds to transport bananas and red amaranth across 180 meters. These insights not only highlight the convenience of quick-commerce platforms but also provide a glimpse into the everyday choices of Indian consumers in 2024.
