Ghebreyesus revealed that he was just meters away from an Israeli airstrike

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed that he was just meters away from an Israeli airstrike on Sanaa International Airport in Yemen while preparing to board a flight. The attack resulted in injuries to a crew member of the United Nations plane and was part of a series of Israeli air assaults that reportedly killed at least six people, including three in the airport strike and three more in Hodeidah.

In a post on X, Tedros explained, "As we were about to board our flight from Sanaa … the airport came under aerial bombardment. One of our plane’s crew members was injured." He noted that the air traffic control tower, departure lounge, and runway—located only a short distance from their position—were damaged, but he and his colleagues remained safe.

There has been no immediate response from Israel regarding the incident. According to the Houthi-controlled Saba news agency, the attacks on the airport caused three fatalities, with an additional three deaths reported in Hodeidah and around 40 others injured due to the Israeli strikes.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attacks, emphasizing the need for adherence to international law and protection for civilians and humanitarian workers. He expressed concern over the escalating violence in Yemen and called for all parties to cease military actions and exercise restraint.
