Pawar Family’s Possible Reunion

The political scene in Maharashtra is witnessing renewed speculation about the potential reconciliation between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar and his nephew, Ajit Pawar. Following the split within the NCP in 2023, observers are hopeful that the fractured relationship may be repaired. While some believe in the possibility of a reunion, others question whether the divide can truly be bridged.

A significant development came from Ajit Pawar's mother, Ashtabai, who publicly expressed her desire for a reunion between her son and Sharad Pawar. During her New Year prayers at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple in Pandharpur, she stated, "I have wished that the differences within the Pawar family end as soon as possible. I hope Pandurang will definitely hear my prayers." Her plea comes amid internal divisions that have affected the NCP's standing in Maharashtra politics. Other family members, including MLA Rohit Pawar's mother, have echoed similar sentiments.

In a surprising gesture of goodwill, Ajit Pawar visited Sharad Pawar’s residence in New Delhi to wish him on his birthday on December 12, marking their first personal meeting since their split. This visit has sparked fresh speculation about the future of their relationship.

Support for a reunion is also emerging from various political figures. Praful Patel, national working president of the NCP (Ajit faction), referred to Sharad Pawar as a father figure and expressed hope for unity within the family. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale of the Republican Party of India also supported the idea of reconciliation, highlighting Ashtabai's prayers and suggesting that Sharad Pawar's experience would benefit the NDA government.

The call for unity is gaining traction as both factions of the NCP navigate their political futures following disappointing performances in recent elections. The ongoing discussions reflect a desire among party members and family to mend ties and strengthen their collective position in Maharashtra politics.
