Bumrah Creates History, Breaks 46-Year-Old Record in Australia

Jasprit Bumrah etched his name in the history books by breaking Bishan Singh Bedi's 46-year-old record for the most Test wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia. On Day 2 of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test, Bumrah claimed his 32nd wicket of the series, surpassing Bedi's 31 wickets from the 1977-78 tour.

Leading the team in Rohit Sharma's absence, Bumrah delivered standout performances with both bat and ball. On Day 1, he dismissed Usman Khawaja in the final over and scored a quick 22 runs off 17 balls earlier in the innings. His fiery spell continued on Day 2 as he removed Marnus Labuschagne with a clever review, thanks to UltraEdge confirming the thin edge.

The stand-in captain's intensity on the field was evident when Khawaja tried to slow down the game on Day 1, frustrating Bumrah. In a dramatic turn, Bumrah had the last laugh, dismissing Khawaja and leading the team in a cheeky celebration directed at young Australian opener Sam Konstas, who had been involved in a verbal spat with him moments earlier.

Bumrah's record-breaking run further solidifies his position as the world's top-ranked Test bowler, with an impressive 907 ICC rating points, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin's previous best of 904. With this performance, Bumrah continues to shine as one of India's most impactful players in Test cricket.
