"Meta Shifts to User-Based Filtration, Ends Fact-Checking: Zuckerberg"
Meta Shifts to User-Driven Content Moderation, Ditches Fact-Checkers

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a major shift in content moderation, opting to replace the company's fact-checking teams with a new “community notes” system, similar to Elon Musk’s approach on X (formerly Twitter).

Zuckerberg explained in an Instagram video that the move was aimed at reducing censorship and restoring free expression on Facebook and Instagram. He acknowledged that while content moderation systems have become too complex, they often make mistakes, leading to unintentional censorship.

Under the new system, users will now play a central role in flagging potentially misleading content. Meta will roll out this change over the next two months in the U.S. and gradually expand it globally. Content will be evaluated mainly based on user reports, with exceptions for severe cases like terrorism. This move marks a return to Meta’s foundational goal of giving people a voice, Zuckerberg emphasized.
