BCCI Plans Tough Rules After Disappointing Test Campaign
Following India’s underwhelming performance in the 2024-25 Test series, the BCCI is considering strict new measures to improve team focus and performance. Among the proposed changes are limits on the time players’ families, particularly wives, can spend with them during long tours. According to reports, families may only be allowed to stay with players for two weeks during a 45-day tour, a rule similar to one that existed before 2019.
The board reportedly believes extended family stays can distract players, especially during overseas matches. Additionally, BCCI is set to enforce stricter travel protocols, requiring all players to travel together on the team bus, discouraging solo travel.
Gambhir Faces Restrictions
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and his manager Gaurav Arora are also under scrutiny. Arora will no longer be permitted to stay in team hotels, sit in VIP boxes, or travel alongside Gambhir in official team transport.
On another note, players will now be responsible for excess baggage fees beyond 150kg during air travel, as the board plans to stop covering such costs.
In a recent meeting involving captain Rohit Sharma, coach Gambhir, and selection chief Ajit Agarkar, BCCI officials discussed these changes, as well as the futures of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The board’s goal appears to be creating a more disciplined and performance-focused environment for the team.
