Rohit Sharma Hits the Nets with Mumbai Ranji Team, Eyes Test Comeback

India's Test captain Rohit Sharma is back to basics after a tough outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where he struggled with the bat. Determined to regain his form, Rohit has decided to join the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team for practice sessions at Wankhede Stadium.

Though he hasn't confirmed if he'll play in the upcoming Ranji match against Jammu & Kashmir, Rohit’s decision to train with the domestic team signals his commitment to sharpening his red-ball game. This marks a rare return for the skipper, who last played in the Ranji Trophy in 2015.

During the Australia series, Rohit averaged just 10.93 across four Tests, prompting India head coach Gautam Gambhir to emphasize the importance of domestic cricket for improving Test performance. "If you want players ready for red-ball cricket, they need to play domestic matches," Gambhir remarked.

With the next Ranji round starting January 23, all eyes are now on Rohit and whether Virat Kohli, another star who has struggled in Tests recently, will also take a cue and return to domestic cricket. Kohli hasn't featured in the Ranji Trophy since 2012.

Rohit’s return to domestic cricket could set an example for other top players to follow, ensuring they stay prepared for the challenges of Test cricket.
