Manu Bhaker’s Paris Olympics Medals to Be Replaced Due to Damage
Indian shooting star Manu Bhaker, who made history by winning two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, is set to receive replacements for her deteriorating medals. Bhaker is among many athletes worldwide who have reported issues with their medals losing color or showing signs of wear.
According to sources, the damage to Bhaker’s medals has persisted for some time, with the color visibly fading. In response, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that damaged medals will be replaced by identical versions engraved by Monnaie de Paris, the French state mint responsible for crafting them.
The Paris 2024 medals, featuring elements of the Eiffel Tower in their design, were produced by the renowned French mint and designed by luxury brand Chaumet. Over 5,000 medals were created for the Games, but several have shown defects.
Bhaker’s achievements at the Paris Olympics were groundbreaking. She became the first Indian since Independence to win two medals in a single Olympic edition, including a bronze in the individual 10m air pistol event—the first Olympic medal for an Indian female shooter.
The replacements are expected to arrive in the coming weeks as the Paris Olympic organizers and Monnaie de Paris work together to address the issue.
