The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi, warning of dense fog conditions expected to persist into the evening and night. On January 15, the capital experienced severe fog and low visibility, resulting in over 300 flight delays and disruptions to train services.
The IMD has also forecast light rain showers throughout the day, which may exacerbate the cold weather in Delhi and surrounding areas such as Noida and Gurugram. As a precaution against the severe cold wave, government schools in Delhi are closed today, coinciding with the end of winter vacations that began on January 1.
Today's weather forecast indicates a minimum temperature of 9°C and a maximum of 19°C. The morning is expected to remain foggy, with similar conditions anticipated for Thursday morning as well.
In response to the adverse weather, several airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet, have issued travel advisories urging passengers to verify their flight statuses before heading to the airport. Additionally, six flights were diverted to Jaipur due to low visibility earlier in the day.
Current Weather Updates:
Flights Delayed: Over 300 flights delayed; six diverted.
Rain Forecast: Light rain expected later today.
Visibility: Dense fog causing low visibility.
