After India’s underwhelming performance in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, particularly from star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the BCCI is exploring the possibility of bringing in a new batting coach to support head coach Gautam Gambhir.
India’s batting struggles have been evident, with the team crossing 300 runs only twice in 10 innings during their 1-3 series loss to Australia. This followed a disappointing 0-3 Test series defeat to New Zealand at home.
According to reports, discussions are underway, but no decisions have been made. Currently, Mumbai stalwart Abhishek Nayar serves as the batting coach, having worked with Gambhir in the IPL at Kolkata Knight Riders. The rest of the support staff includes Morne Morkel as bowling coach and Ryan ten Doeschate.
This move comes as the BCCI looks to strengthen the team’s batting lineup and regain dominance in Test cricket.
