Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi on Friday, emphasizing his government's significant ₹11 lakh crore investment in infrastructure development. He highlighted key initiatives such as the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy, while also advocating for greener mobility solutions that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.
The expo, which will take place over five days across three locations in the Delhi-NCR region, is expected to attract around half a million attendees and showcase numerous new products and services. Modi stated, "Ease of travel is now a major priority for India," praising the integration of technology in the automobile and logistics sectors, including the successful FASTag system for electronic toll collection.
Noting that India is currently the third-largest passenger vehicle market, Modi predicted a transformative expansion driven by a youthful population, an expanding middle class, rapid urbanization, and affordable vehicles stemming from the Make in India initiative. He reported that sales from this initiative and the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme have generated over ₹2.25 lakh crore and created 150,000 direct jobs in the auto sector.
Modi also discussed the government's commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuels through initiatives like the National Electric Mobility Mission and the Green Hydrogen Mission. He mentioned that electric vehicle sales have surged from just 2,600 units annually a decade ago to over 1.68 million in 2024.
In addition to paying tribute to industry leaders Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki for their contributions to India's auto sector, Modi announced plans for new schemes aimed at promoting EV adoption, including the PM E-Drive scheme, which will facilitate the purchase of 2.8 million EVs and install over 70,000 fast chargers.
