Prithvi Shaw Recalls Watching India’s 2011 World Cup Win with Arjun Tendulkar
The iconic moment when Team India lifted the ICC World Cup 2011 at Wankhede Stadium holds a special place in Prithvi Shaw’s heart. Just 11 years old at the time, Shaw watched the historic final from the stands alongside his friend Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Sharing his cherished memory during the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) 50th-anniversary celebrations, Shaw said, “My first memory at Wankhede was watching the 2011 World Cup final live. I was there with Arjun Tendulkar, and we saw India lift the trophy. That moment will stay with me forever.”
A Promising Start to a Bumpy Journey
Once considered one of Mumbai's brightest cricketing prospects, Shaw went on to captain India to victory in the 2018 U19 World Cup, leading a team that included talents like Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh.
However, his career has since taken a challenging turn. Shaw has faced setbacks due to issues with discipline, leading to his exclusion from Mumbai’s domestic teams. Adding to his struggles, he went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
The Mumbai Cricket Association recently dismissed Shaw’s emotional reaction to being left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad, citing concerns over his behavior. While his journey has hit roadblocks, Shaw’s unforgettable experience at Wankhede reminds fans of his passion for the game and his potential to make a strong comeback.
