Harbhajan Singh Slams BCCI’s Restrictions on Family Presence During Tours
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has questioned the BCCI’s decision to limit the presence of players' families on overseas tours. He expressed his views strongly, saying, “What have the wives done? Do we lose matches because of them?”
Harbhajan criticized the policy, arguing that cricketing performance depends on what happens on the field, not on personal factors like family visits. He added, “If the focus is on the wrong things, it won’t solve the real issues. Instead of finding reasons for losses, we should work on improving the team’s performance.”
What’s in BCCI’s New Policy?
The BCCI recently introduced a set of strict rules aimed at promoting discipline and unity in the team:
Families are allowed to join players only for two weeks during overseas tours.
Restrictions have been placed on personal staff accompanying players.
Players are prohibited from leaving a tour early, even if matches end ahead of schedule.
Separate travel arrangements for players are no longer allowed.
Disciplinary actions, including match fee deductions and bans, can be imposed for violations.
This policy comes amidst criticism of Team India’s recent performances, with Harbhajan suggesting the focus should remain on cricket rather than imposing unnecessary restrictions.
