Saif Ali Khan's Attacker Admits To Crime
A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan during a burglary attempt at Khan's residence. Following his apprehension, Shehzad reportedly confessed to the crime, stating, "haan, maine hi kiya hai" (yes, I did it).

The police tracked Shehzad down near Hiranandani Estate in Thane, approximately 35 kilometers from Khan's home in Bandra, after an extensive 70-hour manhunt. He had entered Khan's apartment around 2:30 AM on January 16, where he confronted the actor and his staff before attacking him with a knife. Khan sustained six stab wounds and underwent emergency surgery to remove a piece of the knife from his spine.

Shehzad had been living in Mumbai for about four months and was using the alias Bijoy Das. His arrest revealed suspicious items in his possession, including tools that suggested prior criminal intent. During court proceedings, Shehzad was remanded to five days of police custody while investigations continue into his background and the circumstances surrounding the attack.

His lawyer challenged the police's claims regarding Shehzad's nationality and residency status, asserting that he has lived in India for several years and possesses valid documents. The case has drawn significant media attention due to the high-profile nature of the victim.
