OpenAI Claims Data Removal for India Court Case Could Violate US Laws
OpenAI has informed an Indian court that removing training data from its ChatGPT model would conflict with its legal obligations in the United States. The statement comes in response to a lawsuit filed by news agency ANI, which accused OpenAI of using its content without permission to train the AI.

ANI's case, filed in Delhi, also demands the deletion of its data from ChatGPT. OpenAI argued that Indian courts lack jurisdiction over the matter as the company has no operations in India. The response was detailed in an 86-page filing submitted on January 10.

This lawsuit is part of a growing trend, with OpenAI and other AI companies facing legal challenges from copyright owners worldwide, including a case by The New York Times in the U.S., for allegedly using their content to train AI systems.
