upGrad Partners with Maharashtra to Boost AI Education and Jobs
Ed-tech leader upGrad has joined hands with the Maharashtra government to establish AI Excellence Centres across the state. The partnership, announced on January 23 at Davos 2025 in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and upGrad co-founder Ronnie Screwvala, aims to transform AI education and employment opportunities.
With an investment of ₹2,150 crore, the initiative seeks to train over 1 million students in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, creating a skilled workforce for global careers. Additionally, it will focus on empowering 2.5 lakh rural youth by addressing talent gaps and fostering entrepreneurship in underserved areas.
As part of Maharashtra’s 'Educity' initiative, upGrad will collaborate with three global universities to establish an Urban University and Campus Hubs. The upGrad-supported ATLAS SkillTech University will also develop specialized hybrid programs in fields like AI, gaming, and digital transformation.
Ronnie Screwvala praised the initiative, emphasizing its potential to create the largest AI-ready talent pool. Dr. Indu Shahani, president of ATLAS SkillTech University, highlighted the mission to bridge education gaps and position Maharashtra as a hub for AI innovation and talent.
