Harbhajan Singh Criticizes Snub of Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of Sanju Samson from the squad for the Champions Trophy and England ODIs. Despite Samson’s impressive batting average of 55-56 in ODIs, he was left out, even as discussions about who he should replace continued. Harbhajan felt that space could have been made for the talented Kerala wicketkeeper-batter.
"I truly feel for him. He scores runs, yet he gets dropped. His batting style suits the format, and not even being considered as the second keeper is surprising," Harbhajan shared in a conversation with Switch.
Harbhajan also raised concerns about the absence of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, questioning why he wasn’t included, especially when four spinners were picked, including two left-armers. "Chahal is a fantastic bowler; it’s hard to understand why he’s been left out," he added.
Regarding the selection of Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Champions Trophy, Harbhajan believes the young opener may not get a chance to bat in the top order. "Shubman Gill is the vice-captain, so he’ll play, and with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer at 3 and 4, Yashasvi might not get an opportunity there," he explained.
