"Trump Imposes Tariffs and Sanctions on Colombia Over Deportation Dispute"

US President Donald Trump announced a series of retaliatory measures against Colombia on Sunday, including 25% tariffs on Colombian goods, after the South American nation refused to accept deportation flights carrying migrants.

Trump criticized Colombia’s refusal, claiming it threatened US national security and violated legal obligations regarding deported individuals. In response, he imposed tariffs, travel bans, visa revocations for Colombian officials, and financial sanctions. Trump also directed stricter inspections of Colombian nationals and cargo entering the US.

“These measures are just the beginning,” Trump declared, further emphasizing the importance of upholding immigration agreements.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro responded by threatening to impose a 50% tariff on US goods, while accusing the US of treating migrants like criminals. He suggested Colombia would accept deported individuals only on civilian flights rather than military ones.

This move is part of Trump’s broader crackdown on illegal immigration, which has included military support for border security and a push to restrict asylum and birthright citizenship. The situation has led to growing tensions between the US and Colombia, with both countries exchanging heavy sanctions in the aftermath.
