"Tata Steel to Decommission Historic Coke Oven Battery at Jamshedpur"
Tata Steel has announced the decommissioning of its first stamp charge coke oven battery at its Jamshedpur plant, marking the end of an era for the 36-year-old unit. The battery, which has produced over 12 million tonnes of coke, was pivotal in transforming India’s steel industry.
The decommissioning process, which began on January 27, will involve disconnecting the battery from the by-product plant's gas suction system. As part of the procedure, raw gas will be flared safely through oven top flares and ascension pipes for up to 24 hours.
Tata Steel assured that the flaring is part of a controlled and safe operation and that there is no cause for concern. The company emphasized that this process is essential for the safe retirement of the historic coke oven battery.
