"New Zealand Player Drops Easy Catch, Commentator Calls It a 'Gibbs Moment'"
"Jimmy Neesham's Shocking Drop of Easy Catch Draws Comparison to Herschelle Gibbs' Iconic Mistake"

New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham was left red-faced during a T20 match on January 25 after he dropped a simple catch off England’s Joe Root. Positioned at midwicket, Neesham ran to his right to catch a shot from Root, but in an unfortunate turn, the ball slipped out of his hand after hitting his thigh.

The drop immediately stunned both players and commentators alike, with Pommie Mbangwa on air humorously remarking, "He's done a Herschelle Gibbs." This referenced the infamous moment in the 1999 World Cup when Gibbs dropped Steve Waugh’s catch, a blunder that proved costly for South Africa.

The incident was eerily similar as Root, who was on 16 at the time of the drop, went on to score a match-winning 78 off 56 balls.
