Sony Appoints Hiroki Totoki as New CEO to Drive Entertainment Growth
Sony Group Corp. has named Hiroki Totoki as its new CEO, signaling confidence in the long-time finance chief’s vision for expanding the company’s entertainment portfolio. Totoki, who has been with the company for years, played a key role alongside outgoing CEO Kenichiro Yoshida in shifting Sony’s focus toward entertainment, including PlayStation games, anime, music, and movies.
This strategic focus has paid off, with Sony seeing a 76% rise in operating profit last quarter, despite a slowdown in its smartphone and sensor businesses. Totoki, who has served as president and COO since 2021, will take on the new role starting April 1, with Yoshida transitioning to chairman. Other leadership changes include Hideaki Nishino heading the game and network services division, and Hermen Hulst taking over as CEO of the game studio business.
The announcement sent Sony’s shares up 4.7%, reflecting investor optimism as the company continues to pivot toward content-driven growth. Totoki expressed excitement about his new role, promising to work alongside Sony’s 110,000 employees to continue driving the company’s success.
