Jasprit Bumrah Wins ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, Joins Legendary Indian List
Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been crowned the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, recognizing his phenomenal performances across formats. The world’s top-ranked pacer outshined nominees Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook to claim the prestigious honor.
Bumrah becomes only the fifth Indian to receive this award, following in the footsteps of legends Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018). His dominance was particularly evident in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he claimed a record-breaking 32 wickets—making him the first pacer to achieve this feat.
The 30-year-old also made history by reaching the No.1 spot in Test rankings, becoming the fastest Indian fast bowler to 200 wickets and earning a record-breaking 907 ICC rating points—the highest ever for an Indian bowler. Earlier, he was also named ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2024.
Bumrah’s Staggering 2024 in Numbers
Led India’s T20 World Cup triumph with 15 crucial wickets.
Took 71 Test wickets in 13 matches—the highest by any bowler in 2024.
Second only to Kapil Dev for most Test wickets by an Indian in a calendar year.
What’s Next for Bumrah?
Currently recovering from a back spasm suffered in the final Test against Australia, Bumrah is on a five-week rest. He is set for a medical assessment on February 2 but has already been named in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting next month.
