Mumbai Drops Rohit, Jaiswal & Iyer for Must-Win Ranji Trophy Match – Here’s the Reason!
After a shocking defeat to Jammu and Kashmir, Mumbai has left out star players Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer for their crucial Ranji Trophy match against Meghalaya, starting January 30. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Suryansh Shedge, and Atharva Ankolekar have been brought in as replacements.
Currently third in Group A with 22 points, Mumbai is in a do-or-die situation to qualify for the knockouts, as only the top two teams advance. Their recent five-wicket loss to Jammu and Kashmir has put them under pressure.
Rohit, playing Ranji after a decade, and Jaiswal, returning after nearly a year, featured in the tournament following BCCI’s directive to prioritize domestic cricket. Iyer has been a key player for Mumbai across formats this season. Additionally, Karsh Kothari, who played against J&K, has also been left out.
Why Were Rohit, Jaiswal & Iyer Dropped?
The trio has been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With the ODI series beginning on February 6, they are required to join the national camp by February 2. Since the Ranji match runs from January 30 to February 2, their availability was limited, leading to their exclusion.
Mumbai’s Updated Squad:
Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Siddhesh Lad, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D’Souza, Royston Dias, Shreyas Gurav, Atharva Ankolekar.
With Mumbai needing a win to stay in contention, all eyes will be on their revamped squad in this high-stakes encounter.
