Bill Gates Opens Up About His Past Drug Use in Source Code Memoir

In his upcoming memoir Source Code, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates candidly shares his youthful experiments with LSD and marijuana. The tech billionaire recalls that his curiosity led him to try drugs during his teenage years, but a particular LSD experience left him unsettled, prompting him to stop.

Gates humorously admits he once attempted to dial a phone with his toes under the influence. However, his final encounter with LSD, around age 21, triggered a moment of panic when he feared he could erase his memories like deleting computer files. Reflecting on the experience, he acknowledges that while some thoughts seemed profound at the time, they ultimately weren’t.

The memoir also delves into his first experience with alcohol, which resulted in him passing out, and he jokingly blames his late friend and Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, for influencing him. Despite his willingness to take risks, Gates emphasizes that he always valued having a sharp mind.

Set for release on February 4, Source Code offers a rare glimpse into Gates' younger years, his influences, and the key people in his life, many of whom are no longer around today.
