Gaddafi Stadium Handover Set for Feb 11 as Champions Trophy Nears
With just days left before the Champions Trophy kicks off, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will be handed over to the ICC on February 11. The venue, which recently underwent renovations, will be ready for branding and final preparations after Pakistan’s tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
The ICC had initially set January 31 as the deadline for handing over all three host venues—Gaddafi Stadium (Lahore), National Stadium (Karachi), and Rawalpindi Stadium. However, PCB officials remain confident that the venues will be fully prepared despite lingering concerns.
A PCB source revealed that final touches are being made, with debris from construction work being cleared. “This has been a massive six-month transformation, and the stadium is finally taking shape,” the source added.
PCB recently shared a video of the revamped Gaddafi Stadium on X, calling it “a sight to behold under the lights” and expressing excitement for the upcoming tournament. Karachi’s National Stadium, which will host the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19, is also expected to be ready on time.
Pakistan has invested around PKR 12 billion in upgrading its cricket venues, ensuring they meet international standards. While the Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan, India will play all its matches in Dubai due to security concerns.
With preparations in full swing, PCB officials remain confident that the stadiums will be ready to host one of cricket’s biggest events.
