Varun Chakaravarthy Earns ODI Call-Up After Stellar T20I Series, Eyes Champions Trophy Spot
Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been drafted into India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England after a sensational performance in the T20Is. His selection comes with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in mind, as India looks to strengthen its spin attack.
Chakaravarthy, who has been in red-hot form since his return to the national team, has taken 31 wickets in just 12 T20Is, including two five-wicket hauls. Against England, he was the leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps, including a match-winning fifer in Rajkot.
Following his impact in the shorter format, the BCCI confirmed his inclusion in the ODI squad, and he has already joined the team in Nagpur. India’s Champions Trophy squad currently features four spinners—Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar—but Chakaravarthy’s form has made a strong case for his inclusion.
Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also backed his selection, suggesting that with provisional squads still open for changes, Chakaravarthy could find a spot in India’s final Champions Trophy lineup.
