On February 6, 2025, a Bering Air flight carrying 9 passengers and 1 pilot disappeared from radar near Nome, Alaska, en route from Unalakleet. The Alaska State Troopers (AST) were notified of the overdue Bering Air Caravan at 4:00 p.m. and search and rescue (SAR) crews are working to reach the aircraft's last known coordinates.
Due to weather and icing, air support is limited, so a ground search is underway. The Nome Volunteer Fire Department is conducting a ground search from Nome and White Mountain. The US Coast Guard is preparing to send a C-130 aircraft to survey the area, and the US Air Force is deploying air support from Elmendorf Air Force Base. The cause of the disappearance is currently unknown, but bad weather has been reported in the area. The Nome Fire Department has asked the public not to form independent search parties due to safety reasons.
