DMK-Led Alliance Accuses BJP and Affiliates of Divisive Politics, Urges Preservation of Secularism in Tamil Nadu

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu has issued a joint statement accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and other right-wing organizations of systematically dividing people along religious lines for political gain. The statement, signed by DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan and leaders from 11 other alliance parties, highlights Tamil Nadu's tradition of religious harmony, citing examples like the Palaniandavar Temple, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, Annai Velankanni Temple, Nagore Dargah, and Ervadi Dargah, where people of all faiths worship together. The alliance warns that these organizations, having previously targeted sites like the Babri Masjid and Ajmer Dargah, now aim to disrupt Tamil Nadu's unity. They appeal to the public and secular parties to resist such divisive efforts and pledge to uphold secularism and social unity in the state.
