Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Resigns Amid Prolonged Ethnic Violence

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tendered his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in Imphal. This decision follows nearly 21 months of ethnic violence in the northeastern state, which has resulted in over 250 fatalities and displaced thousands. Singh's resignation comes ahead of a scheduled assembly session, where the opposition Congress party was expected to move a no-confidence motion against his government. In his resignation letter, Singh expressed gratitude to the central government for its interventions and emphasized the need for continued action to address border infiltration and deport illegal immigrants. The governor has accepted his resignation and requested Singh to continue until alternative arrangements are made
