"We'd Beat India in 3 Days!" – Arjuna Ranatunga’s Fiery Take on Team India's Struggles

India’s once-dominant Test record at home came crashing down in October 2024 with a shocking series loss to New Zealand. Their struggles continued with a 1-3 defeat in Australia, raising concerns about the team’s form, leadership, and batting lineup.

Weighing in on India's dip, former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga made a bold claim—his 1996 World Cup-winning squad would have easily defeated the current Indian side in just three days on home soil. Speaking to The Telegraph, he emphasized that India’s batters wouldn't have stood a chance against Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan in their prime.

Ranatunga’s remarks come at a time when both India’s management under Gautam Gambhir and the form of key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are under scrutiny. Both averaged in the 20s in Test cricket last year, raising questions about the team’s future.

While India missed out on the World Test Championship final, Sri Lanka also struggled, finishing sixth in the standings. Ranatunga acknowledged Sri Lanka’s talent but blamed poor cricket board management for their downfall.

With both nations facing challenges, the debate is on—could Ranatunga’s legendary squad have really dismantled Team India in just three days?
