Gujarat Titans Set for Ownership Shift as Torrent Group Eyes Majority Stake

Gujarat Titans, the 2022 IPL champions, are on the verge of a major ownership change, with Indian conglomerate Torrent Group in advanced talks to acquire a 67% stake in the franchise. The deal, currently awaiting approval from the BCCI and IPL governing council, would see Torrent Group take control ahead of IPL 2025, set to begin on March 21. While the exact valuation of the transaction remains undisclosed, the move marks a significant shift in the franchise's journey.

Who is Torrent Group?

A powerhouse in India's pharmaceutical sector, Torrent Group is valued at approximately ₹41,000 crore. The company had previously shown keen interest in IPL ownership, bidding for teams in 2021 and later attempting to acquire a Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise.

Gujarat Titans’ IPL Journey

Debuting in 2022, Gujarat Titans made an immediate impact, clinching the title under Hardik Pandya’s leadership. They came close to a second triumph in 2023 but finished as runners-up to Chennai Super Kings. With Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill took over as captain for IPL 2024, though the team struggled, ending the season in eighth place.

Looking ahead to IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans have strengthened their squad with key signings, including England’s Jos Buttler and India’s Mohammed Siraj, while retaining star spinner Rashid Khan. With new ownership on the horizon, the franchise is gearing up for a fresh chapter in its IPL journey.
