Bumrah Out of Champions Trophy 2025, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy Join Squad
India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury, the BCCI confirmed on Tuesday. Rising pacer Harshit Rana, who recently made his ODI debut against England, has been named as his replacement.
Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has also secured a spot in the squad after impressing in the T20Is against England. He replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially part of the provisional squad. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, and Jaiswal have been named as standbys and will travel to Dubai if needed.
Bumrah, who suffered the injury during the Australia tour, underwent multiple scans. While the reports showed no major concerns, he hasn’t regained full fitness. This marks the second time he’s missing a major ICC event due to a back injury, having sat out the 2022 T20 World Cup as well.
Harshit Rana, who made his debut in Australia, has been in solid form, grabbing five wickets in the first two ODIs against England. Chakaravarthy also made his ODI debut recently in Cuttack, earning a spot in the squad for his impressive performances.
