A parliamentary committee led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has reached out to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry regarding the recent controversy surrounding social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia's inappropriate comments. The committee has requested a response by February 17 on potential measures, including amendments to existing laws, to prevent similar incidents on social media and OTT platforms.
During discussions, several committee members emphasized the need for stringent actions against such behavior. BJD MP Sasmit Patra noted that representatives from various parties expressed concerns over Allahbadia's remarks and called for stronger regulations.
In related developments, Assam Police have issued summons to YouTubers, including Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani, as part of an investigation into allegations of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on a YouTube show. The case was initiated following a complaint filed by a Guwahati resident, leading to an FIR against multiple influencers.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia made a crass joke during an episode of the show "India's Got Latent," which has since drawn widespread criticism and calls for accountability from both the public and lawmakers.
