The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Ashwani Kumar presented the budget estimates for the 2025-26 financial year, totaling Rs 17,000 crore. The budget allocates Rs 4,907.11 crore for sanitation, representing 28.86% of the total budget, which is an increase from Rs 4,593 crore in the previous year. Kumar projected an income of Rs 16,701 crore against an expenditure of Rs 17,002 crore.
In addition to sanitation, the budget designates Rs 2,894 crore (17.02%) for public works and street lighting under the engineering department, up from Rs 2,694 crore this year.
Meanwhile, the BJP's Legislature Party is set to hold a meeting on Sunday to finalize the selection of Delhi's next Chief Minister. This meeting will include all 48 newly elected MLAs and will be overseen by two senior BJP leaders from the national leadership. The party is also considering appointing two Deputy Chief Ministers to ensure broader representation reflecting Delhi’s diverse demographics.
Potential candidates for the Chief Minister position include Parvesh Verma, who recently defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, as well as East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra and North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari.
