Delhi Assembly in Uproar as AAP MLA Faces Rebuke for Posting House Proceedings on Social Media
The Delhi Assembly witnessed significant turmoil on March 3, 2025, when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh shared a photograph of the ongoing House session on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The image, posted without prior permission, depicted discussions occurring in the absence of ministers. Singh captioned the photo, noting the unprecedented nature of such proceedings without ministerial presence and questioning who would respond on behalf of the government.
The post prompted immediate backlash from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, who demanded stringent action against Singh for violating Assembly protocols. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting that capturing photographs during sessions is strictly prohibited. BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar further insisted on the confiscation of Singh's phone and recommended referring the matter to a committee for appropriate action.

Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta addressed the issue by instructing Singh to delete the post and issue an apology, underscoring that taking photographs during House proceedings constitutes a breach of privilege. Initially, Singh defended his actions by pointing out that Assembly sessions are broadcasted live; however, upon understanding the specific rules regarding unauthorized photography, he expressed regret. Despite this, the photograph remained online until BJP members highlighted its continued presence, prompting the Speaker to reiterate his warning and demand its removal.
