India and the European Union (EU) have agreed to expedite efforts to conclude a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of this year. This decision was reaffirmed during a meeting in Mumbai between India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Šefčovič, alongside officials from both sides.
The upcoming tenth round of negotiations is scheduled for March 10-14 in Brussels, where both parties aim to address remaining challenges and finalize the agreement.
The EU, India's largest trading partner, seeks reductions in high tariffs on imports such as cars and wine, while India aims for enhanced access to the EU market for its pharmaceuticals, textiles, and other goods.
