In a tragic incident near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi, Karnataka, an Israeli tourist and her Indian homestay hostess were gang-raped, and one male tourist drowned during the assault. The victims were part of a group stargazing near Sanapur Lake on March 6 when three men on motorcycles approached them under the pretext of seeking directions. The assailants demanded money, and when refused, they attacked the group, pushing the three male tourists into a nearby canal and sexually assaulting the two women. Two of the men managed to escape, while the third, identified as Bibash from Odisha, drowned; his body was recovered later.
