The government of India has announced that the toll tax collection will resume on national highways from midnight on December 2, while old Rs 500 notes will be accepted till December 15.

"The toll collection on national highways will resume from mid-night of December 2," A road ministry official said.

The toll tax collection was halted across the country after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced ban on high denominations notes earlier in November.

The toll plazas across the country have installed swipe machines to ensure smooth payments.
