Trump and Putin Initiate Ceasefire Talks in Ukraine Conflict
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to pursue a limited ceasefire targeting energy and infrastructure in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war during their phone call on March 18, 2025. The White House characterized this agreement as a preliminary step towards achieving lasting peace, which may eventually expand to include a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea.
Negotiations are set to commence immediately, although it remains uncertain whether Ukraine will support this phased ceasefire plan. During the call, Putin urged Trump to halt foreign military and intelligence aid to Ukraine as part of the discussions aimed at ending Russia's invasion.

Prior to their conversation, Trump expressed his intention to address issues surrounding land and power plants that have been affected during the prolonged conflict, which has now entered its third year.
