Why Barcelona plan to offer Ansu Fati a new contract despite limited game time under Hansi Flick
Ansu Fati is enduring a tough season at Barcelona but could still be offered a new contract by the Catalan giants.
The reason is that Barcelona want to restructure his deal which would help free up some financial space ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Sport.
Fati is currently one of the team’s highest earners on a contract until 2027. As things stand, he is set to be paid around €26 million gross in wages over the next two years.
Yet Barcelona are thinking about extending his contract until 2030 to spread that cost over the new five years which would help out the wage bill significantly.
It’s a move that Barcelona have done before with Samuel Umtiti and are hoping to implement again if Fati is agreeable.
The move would see Fati earn around €5.2m per season and drop him from Barca’s third highest earer to something much more manageable, particularly for a player who is barely playing.

Barca have been looking to offload Fati, and saw him turn down several offers in January, but it remains to be seen if he’ll move in the summer or accept a wage drop.
