Harmanpreet Singh’s brace and Abhishek’s brilliant goal went in vain as India lost the seven-goal thriller to Argentina 3-4, suffering their third consecutive defeat in the European leg of the FIH Pro League 2025. Argentina, with this win, have drawn level with Spain and India on the points table, with 15 points each.
In the match, Argentina started as aggressively as they could, and it paid off as Matias Ray scored the first goal for his team just three minutes into the game, leaving India trailing 0-1 early. However, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh once again became the saviour for his team, converting a penalty corner in the 12th minute to level the score at 1-1 by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Argentina resumed their aggressive play as Lucas Martinez scored a field goal just 90 seconds in, putting his team back in the lead at 2-1. India tried their best but could not find the equaliser before half-time, which ended with Argentina ahead.
In the third quarter, India equalised early with Harmanpreet Singh’s second goal of the day, making it 2-2. However, Santiago Tarazona quickly restored Argentina’s lead, scoring less than a minute later to make it 3-2. India found another equaliser in the 39th minute through a field goal by Abhishek, ending the third quarter with the teams tied at 3-3.
In the final quarter, Argentina continued their pattern of early attacks as Lucio Mendez scored just 18 seconds in, putting his team ahead 4-3. India, despite their best efforts, failed to find another equaliser, and Argentina walked away with the win.
