Lt Governor Highlights Adventure and Eco-Tourism Potential of Wari La During Ladakh Visit
Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday interacted with tourists during his visit to Wari La — a high-altitude mountain pass connecting Leh with Nubra Valley at over 17,000 feet. Known for its pristine landscapes, panoramic views of the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges, and vast adventure tourism opportunities, Wari La remains relatively unexplored compared to other destinations in the Union Territory.

Accompanied by First Lady Smt. Bindu Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Romil Singh, SSP Leh Shruti Arora, and other officials, the Lt Governor said the UT Administration is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to expand tourism avenues in Ladakh. The focus, he noted, will be on adventure tourism, eco-tourism, and cultural tourism, supported by improved infrastructure, road connectivity, and sustainable development measures to protect Ladakh’s fragile ecology.

Highlighting the growing adventure spirit in the region, Gupta pointed out that hundreds of bikers are already taking the Wari La route, making it a fast-emerging hotspot for thrill-seekers. He assured that the administration will enhance facilities and safety standards to encourage such activities and position Ladakh as a global destination for bikers.

The Lt Governor also referred to the ongoing 12th edition of the Ladakh Marathon, which this year saw record participation of over 6,600 runners from 30 countries. “These participants are true ambassadors who will carry Ladakh’s message of peace, adventure, and natural beauty across the world,” he remarked.

Reaffirming the administration’s vision, Gupta said Ladakh aims to become a year-round tourist destination offering natural beauty, adventure, culture, and spirituality. He directed officials to explore more adventure sports, trekking circuits, cycling expeditions, and cultural events, while also strengthening homestays and local entrepreneurship to directly benefit communities.

Tourists who interacted with the Lt Governor during his journey from Nubra to Wari La appreciated the initiatives taken to improve facilities and expressed optimism about Ladakh emerging as a global hub for high-altitude tourism.

“We will ensure that the growth of tourism goes hand in hand with environmental protection and cultural preservation,” Gupta assured.
