The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, cautioning that the city may experience extremely heavy rainfall over the next few hours. According to the weather department, “very intense spells of showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching up to 30–40 kmph are highly likely.”
Local Train Updates
Suburban trains on the Central Railway’s main and harbour routes are experiencing delays of nearly ten minutes, ANI reported, quoting the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railways. Although water has gathered in a few low-lying areas, train services remain functional with added safety measures in place. Officials from both Central and Western Railways confirmed that suburban operations were running, despite continuous rainfall since the previous night.
Are schools shut in Mumbai?
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has not yet announced a closure for schools. Parents and students have been asked to remain in contact with their institutions for any new updates or official instructions.
Traffic diversions due to waterlogging
The persistent rainfall has disrupted road movement in several parts of Mumbai, especially in the southern and central zones. Heavy waterlogging has led to the closure of Andheri Subway in Andheri West. Traffic authorities have rerouted vehicles through the Gokhale Bridge to ease congestion.
Weather situation in Pune and other districts
