Pakistan faced a heavy setback against India in their Asia Cup 2025 Group A encounter on Sunday. Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for only 127 runs, a target that India comfortably chased in 15.5 overs. The result means India are virtually assured of a place in the Super Four with two wins, while Pakistan have just two points from their two matches. Although Pakistan still hold a positive net run-rate and remain strong contenders to qualify, there is still a slim chance they could miss out on a top-two finish in the group.
If Pakistan were to lose their final group game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and UAE also defeat Oman, then UAE would advance with four points compared to Pakistan’s two. Even in the event that UAE’s last match against Oman is washed out, they would still progress with higher points than Pakistan.
Pakistan’s dominant 93-run victory over Oman earlier in the group stage, however, provides them an edge if qualification ultimately comes down to net run-rate.
In the latest clash, Salman Ali Agha’s side was convincingly beaten by the Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav. The defending T20 World Cup winners showcased their strength once again, finishing with a net run-rate of +4.793 in Group A.
