Soha Ali Khan recalls being replaced in Paheli by Rani Mukerji after Shah Rukh Khan came on board

 

Soha Ali Khan, who made her Bollywood debut in Dil Maange More alongside Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, and Tulip Joshi, recently revealed that her first film was initially supposed to be quite different. The actress shared that she was originally cast in Amol Palekar’s Paheli, starring Shah Rukh Khan, but was eventually replaced by Rani Mukerji.

 

In an interview with Mashable India, when asked if Rani Mukerji had indeed replaced her in the project that could have been her debut, Soha replied candidly, “She did.”

 

Quit her job for the film

Soha went on to explain that she had even left her banking job after being approached for Paheli. Calling Amol Palekar a respected and credible filmmaker, she said she was drawn to the story and was excited about the opportunity. “He approached me, and I said, ‘I definitely want to do this.’ He told me, ‘Then you will have to quit your job because it will take a couple of months,’” Soha recalled.
