Donald Trump Arrives in UK for Second State Visit with First Lady Melania
US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have landed in the United Kingdom for their second official state visit. Air Force One touched down at Stansted Airport in London, where they were welcomed by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, US Ambassador Warren Stephens, and The Viscount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting. The couple will spend the night at the ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park before traveling to Windsor tomorrow.
Security has been tightened ahead of the visit, with authorities preparing for demonstrations organized by the Stop Trump Coalition in both Windsor and central London. Officials have warned of significant protests expected during the trip.
On the following day, the Trumps are scheduled to take part in a carriage procession through the Windsor estate alongside King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine. This will be Trump’s first meeting with King Charles since his coronation. The ceremonial welcome will include the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, armed forces personnel, and three military bands. The presidential couple will also make a private visit to St George’s Chapel to lay a wreath at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb. The day’s events will feature a flypast by the Red Arrows and US and UK F-35 jets, followed by a Beating Retreat ceremony. The evening will close with a state banquet in St George’s Hall, where both King Charles and President Trump are expected to give speeches.
Visit to Chequers and Bilateral Talks
On September 18, President Trump and the First Lady will travel to Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country residence, for a meeting with Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Victoria. Their welcome will include a guard of honour by RAF Halton, bagpipers, and a review of the Sir Winston Churchill archives. The agenda features bilateral talks, a business reception with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and a joint press conference.
The farewell ceremony will be conducted by the Prime Minister, joined by the Lord Chamberlain on behalf of King Charles. Unlike his previous visit, Trump will not appear before Parliament, as the House of Commons is currently in recess for party conferences.
The visit will also involve major business discussions, with Sky News reporting that global corporate figures such as Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, BlackRock’s Larry Fink, and Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman are expected to participate. Talks are anticipated to focus on collaboration in nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, and wider technology partnerships.
This state visit comes shortly after Trump’s private trip to Scotland two months ago, where he met Sir Keir Starmer, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Scottish First Minister John Swinney, in addition to inaugurating a new golf course.
